• These are sturdy double walled units with outer chamber made of MS Sheet duly enamel painted with inner made up of anodized aluminium or S.S. Sheet
• The gap between inner and outer chamber is filled with high grade glass wool to avoid thermal losses
• Beaded heating elements are placed in ribs, at bottom and sides.
• Inner chamber is provided with ribs for adjusting perforated shelves to convenient height
• Temperature is controlled by hydraulic type capillary thermostat from 500^o C to 2500^o C + 10^o C
• An L-shaped prismatic thermometer is fitted to the unit for reading the chamber temperature
• Air ventilators are also provided on the sides of the unit

• Thin Film Oven is a dual purpose oven, designed to determine the loss in weight of bitumen and flux oils (loss on heating test) and the effect of heat and air on asphaltic materials (thin film test)
• The unit of Thin Film Oven is heavily insulated and has a double glass door for viewing the test chamber thermometer and samples
• Temperature is controlled at 163^o C + 1^o C by means of a variable temperature controller and thermostat
• Two rotating platforms are supplied with each Thin Film Oven: one accepts 9 standard penetration cups for the loss on heating test the other accepts two 140 mm diameter test pans for the thin film test
• The platforms are rotated at 5 to 6 rmp by an external motor

The rolling thin-film oven test (RTFOT) is one of the most commonly used standardized tests to simulate the STA of binders. This test is used to measure the combined effects of heat and air on a thin film of bitumen or bituminous binder in permanent renewal.
